Socket Set Screws

• Apply a penetrating oil like WD-40 or PB Blaster to the screw and let it sit for a few minutes to loosen any corrosion or rust that may have caused the screw to stick.
• Use a heat gun or propane torch to heat the area around the screw that will expand the metal and break the bond between the screw and the material it is threaded to.
• Use a screw extractor to grip the head of the screw and turn it counterclockwise to remove the screw from the workpiece.
• If the screw is protruding from the surface of the material, use a plier or wrench. Grip the head of the screw with the tool and turn it counterclockwise to remove it.
• The user can also take the help of a drill to create a hole in the centre of the screw and then use a screw extractor to remove the remaining pieces.

Knurled cup point screws are typically used on softer materials, such as plastics, wood and soft metals.

Choosing the right size socket screw depends on several factors, including the size of the object being fastened, the amount of pressure required and the material of both the screw and the object being fastened.

Some set screws are not designed to be adjusted once seated. Knurled screws, for example, provide a more permanent fixture. However, in certain situations, like the loosening of screws or incorrect positioning, the screws can be reinstalled using a Wrench for a clean look.
