Dorian boring bars are single-pointed cutting tools that use various inserts to size, straighten and finish the inside of drilled or cast holes. They can be easily mounted to a lathe or turning machine and remain stationary while the machine rotates the workpiece against the cutting tip.

Negative rake refers to the shape of the cutting angle of the carbide. When the face of the cutting tool slopes away from the cutting edge at an optimal angle, a negative rake angle takes place. Negative rake boring bars are safer, smoother and make more continuous cuts in very hard materials.
