Working Mechanism

  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) change the supplied alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC) and again into AC power at a different frequency by adjusting a connected inverter's switching rate.
  • Increasing the frequency increases the motor's speed and vice versa.

Features

  • Eaton H-Max Series variable frequency drives have numerous control modes like voltage, current & sensorless vector control modes for efficient operation.
  • They can use their digital communication ports & the A-type software for monitoring & controlling operations remotely.
  • These VFDs further feature electronic bypass capability to easily control the bypass circuit using a digital input, keypad, BMS communications or in-fault conditions.
  • They have easily accessible terminals and removable top & bottom entry panels for quickly accessing connections.
  • These VFDs can operate at a maximum ambient temperature of 50 degrees C.
  • They have IntelliDisconnect NEMA Type 3R or IntelliPass NEMA Type 3R enclosure for enhanced protection from damage.
  • Selected models further feature a space heater with a transformer and pilot lights for ensuring long operating life & reliable operation.

Standards and Approvals

  • IEC 61800-5-1
  • UL 508C
  • cUL

Frequently Asked Questions

What variables should be considered for selecting a variable frequency drive?

  • Environment
  • Ease-of-integration with the system
  • Voltage
  • Size of the unit
  • Acceleration time
  • Cost
  • Harmonic distortion mitigation

Why is a variable frequency drive required for a permanent magnet AC motor?

Permanent magnet motors reach full speed / torque almost immediately after actuation. The shock load by a normal power supply can often damage the connected mechanical components. The voltage supplied must be controlled. The VFDs play a big role here by matching motors with their respective power supply. However, users should not run more than 1 motor on a single variable frequency drive (VFD).

What is the use of the DC link choke in these Eaton H-Max Series FR6 variable frequency drives?

These VFDs come with a DC link choke for reducing harmonic distortions (electrical noise).
