Working Mechanism

  • In the event of a sustained moderate overload General Electric circuit breaker's bimetallic strip heats up due to the increased current passing through it.
  • As the temperature of the bimetallic strip rises, it gradually bends or deforms.
  • If a sudden and severe short circuit occurs, the strong magnetic field generated by the high current activates the magnetic trip element of the breaker.
  • This causes the breaker's internal mechanism to trip almost instantly, disconnecting the circuit.

Features

  • These General Electric SELA Series moulded case circuit breakers have an LSI (long-time, short-time and instantaneous) trip for preventing short circuits.
  • They feature bolt-on mounting that allows easy installation in both horizontal and vertical positions.
  • These General Electric SELA Series circuit breakers offer a high interrupt capacity of 65kAIC at 480V.
  • They are available in current ratings of 30A and 60A.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the points to inspect before operating these General Electric SELA Series circuit breakers?

  • Thoroughly clean the unit to remove any accumulated dust, grime, grease or moisture.
  • Ensure that the mechanical linkages do not obstruct the proper operation of the unit, including its ability to be turned on or off.
  • Inspect the appliance for any signs of damage, such as cracks, chipping, or unusual discolouration.
  • Tighten all connectors and terminals securely to maintain proper electrical connections.
  • Examine the mounting equipment to confirm its stability and integrity in supporting the unit.
  • Eliminate any potential safety hazards from the vicinity of the installation site to create a safe operating environment.

What are the voltage ratings of these General Electric SELA Series circuit breakers?

These General Electric SELA Series circuit breakers can be operated at voltages up to 600V.

What is the difference between a fuse and a circuit breaker?

Fuses contain a wire that melts when overcurrent passes through it, breaking the circuit and protecting the rest of the system. Fuse is a one-time use device, while circuit breakers use an electromechanical mechanism to automatically open the circuit on detecting faults or overcurrents. Circuit breakers can be reused & reset after they trip.

How to maintain these General Electric SELA Series circuit breakers?

  • Keep the circuit breaker clean with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Check for signs of wear or damage and replace the breaker if required.
  • Use proper tools and equipment when servicing the breaker.
  • Schedule regular maintenance with a qualified technician.

How to install these General Electric circuit breakers?

  • Remove the wires from the existing circuit or panel where you're installing the breaker.
  • Securely mount these SELA Series frame circuit breaker onto the panel or DIN rail.
  • Connect the wires to the appropriate terminals on the circuit breaker, following the manufacturer's wiring diagram.
  • Ensure all connections are tight and secure.
  • Restore power to the circuit and check for proper operation.
  • Perform a functional test to ensure the circuit breaker trips correctly under overload or short-circuit conditions.
  • Label the breaker for easy identification and document its installation for future reference.
