EATON EGEDC Series DC Circuit Breakers

Eaton EGEDC Series DC circuit breakers protect low-voltage DC electrical systems from overcurrent and short circuit conditions. They work in conjunction with shunt trips, auxiliary switches and alarms to provide a quick indication during a faulty condition.

Working Mechanism

  • These circuit breakers are equipped with fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip mechanisms to protect electrical systems against overload conditions:

Fixed Thermal Trips

  • The thermal trip uses a bimetallic strip that is sensitive to changes in temperatures. When the current flow exceeds the rated value, the strip heats up and bends.
  • This causes the contacts to open and interrupt the current flow.

Fixed Magnetic Trips

  • The magnetic trip consists of an electromagnetic component that detects the presence of short circuits in a circuit. As the current rises, a magnetic field is generated that causes the displacement of the plunger in the tripping coil, forcing the contacts to open and interrupt the flow.

Features

  • These circuit breakers feature a fixed thermal & fixed magnetic trip that offers reliable overload and short-circuit protection, thus protecting wire and the equipment from damage.
  • They also include a front-mounted handle that can be used to manually trip or reset the breaker.
  • These circuit breakers have moulded cases to hold current-carrying components, trip devices and mechanisms integrated into one unit.
  • Their three-pole design provides interrupting ratings of 35kA at 240VAC, 25kA at 480VAC and 18kA at 600Y / 347VAC, respectively.

Standards and Approvals

  • UL

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the tripping status indicated?

Eaton moulded case circuit breakers feature a trip flag to provide a visual indication of the TRIPPED and OFF status of the breaker.

How to reset a moulded case circuit breaker that has been tripped?

A tripped breaker can be reset again by pressing the OFF and then the ON pushbutton, which closes the breaker contacts and retracts the current flow.
